From the beaches of Brazil to those of Scotland, Annia gets outdoors in all weathers…and ‘enjoys’ running.

Welcome to 3Keel! How have your first days been so far?

Busy!! But really enjoyable. There’s been a lot to take in and learn, but everyone has been incredibly welcoming and supportive. I’m starting to find my feet and feel part of the team.

What have you started working on?

Quite a mix already! I’ve started working across a few projects in different roles, including EUDR preparedness, alongside lots of learning about 3Keel and how we work. I’ve really enjoyed having a combination of project management, client work and more technical tasks from the start.

What are you looking forward to most about working for 3Keel?

For me, it’s the chance to work on real supply chain challenges and help businesses make positive changes, finding practical ways to tackle problems like deforestation and degradation. I’m also excited by the variety: moving between different commodities, projects and perspectives, and learning from people who bring very different expertise to the table.

Who or what inspired you to work in sustainability?

There wasn’t really one particular moment – I’ve always been fascinated by nature. I’m a big forest lover and spent a good chunk of my career doing fieldwork, studying forests and vegetation and seeing first-hand how complex, vulnerable, but also resilient these ecosystems are. Moving from ecology and conservation into sustainability felt like a natural next step; a way to take that scientific understanding and apply it to real-world challenges.

When you’re not working, what do you like to do?

I am Brazilian but live in the north of Scotland with my husband and kids, and we spend a lot of time outdoors, exploring the Highlands and the Scottish beaches – usually in weather that would probably be considered unsuitable elsewhere! I’m a wannabe basketball player, occasional yogi and keen runner, currently making questionable life choices involving long-distance races: next up is my first (and likely last) marathon in London next year!
