The role of business in addressing deforestation

The role of business in addressing deforestation is designed to help you navigate what needs to happen next to tackle deforestation in global commodity supply chains. Will Schreiber, Director, and Anna Kitulagoda, Special Advisor share their expertise in this webinar hosted by Senior Consultant, Ruth Jenkins.

Context

3Keel has recently published a white paper, The role of business in halting deforestation, which reviews twenty years of initiatives by global companies in palm oil, soy, and cocoa supply chains. The authors found that business leadership has achieved significant progress, such as improving transparency, certification, and monitoring. They also identified that voluntary efforts alone have not been enough to stop forest loss.

With the annual intensity of forest losses continuing to increase, our experts evaluated the remaining impact potential of the tools available to halt deforestation. While some tools have reached the limit of what they are able to deliver, others – such as payment for ecosystem services and regulation – show a high degree of efficacy and great potential for further impact.

What the webinar covers

With 2025 marking a milestone year, this webinar provides a summary overview of our new report to provide a clearer role for businesses in eliminating global deforestation.

Over the past decade, 3Keel has assessed and monitored the policies and actions of more than 1,000 companies involved in the trade and production of consumer products containing deforestation-risk commodities. We have facilitated pre-competitive collaborations, supported voluntary initiatives, and worked with civil society and governments to shape effective policy and expectations.
