3Keel has begun an exciting new chapter in the company’s 13-year development. We have joined Fera Science Ltd, a world class science-based business that delivers technical services and innovation to protect food, people, and the environment.

Fera is an applied science leader, helping clients tackle their most complex challenges through deep expertise and trusted partnership. It is acquiring 3Keel to become its advisory wing of the business.

3Keel’s directors and the Fera leadership team have a clear vision to create a unique organisation that combines 3Keel’s advisory and consulting skills with Fera’s science and technical capabilities. By bringing together our people and complementary capabilities, we believe we can provide new solutions to enhance supply chain sustainability, traceability and security.

All five 3Keel directors will remain in the business and are looking forward to the new opportunities that becoming part of a larger organisation will bring to 3Keel. For clients, it is business as usual, with 3Keel’s teams operating as they are now, delivering the same products and services. The difference will be that in the future, we will have yet more to offer.

Simon Miller, Managing Director of 3Keel said: “We are delighted to join forces with Fera, where we will continue to provide our consulting services as well as now having an array of new capabilities at our fingertips. Fera is a unique organisation and it’s clear that its scientific expertise, direct links to government and proven R&D track record will hugely bolster the impact of the work that 3Keel does and will, no doubt, enable joint innovation.”

For over a century, Fera has brought science to the places where it can make the greatest difference. Now, under the banner of Science for Life, that mission is sharper than ever: to help customers navigate complexity and make confident decisions in a world defined by rapid change. At its York headquarters, over 500 scientists contribute expertise across the agri‑food chain, from product safety, the development of next‑generation biologicals, to the safe, responsible innovation of alternative proteins, to name a few.

From setting the standard for responsible seafood sourcing to guiding organisations through new EUDR regulations, the challenges facing our food system demand deep sector expertise and the ability to translate complex evidence into clear, actionable insight. These are the kinds of issues that require both scientific rigour and strategic understanding – and they are exactly where the combined strengths of Fera and 3Keel can make a transformative difference.

3Keel’s proven experience in developing strategy, convening stakeholders and supporting clients to implement ambitious sustainability programmes will be enriched by Fera’s vast scientific abilities. Together, the Group will integrate translational research, laboratory and in-field measurement into high-value, actionable advice that delivers new ‘end-to-end’ solutions for clients.

Dr Andrew Swift, Chief Executive of Fera said: “Joining with 3Keel presents a fantastic opportunity to grow our combined capabilities in support of our markets in sustainability services and responsible environmental stewardship. Bringing together our complementary strengths creates an unrivalled and uniquely powerful platform to support our clients and partners in addressing climate risk, improving resilience and delivering long-term impact.”
